Susan Carol "Sue" Sovern
April 11, 1947 - February 16, 2023

Susan Carol "Sue" Sovern, 75, of Medora, passed away at 5:28 p.m. on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.

Sue was born on April 11, 1947, in Terre Haute, Indiana, to the late Marlin Jackson & Leona Wenzel Jackson. She attended a Catholic Parochial School in Terre Haute and graduated from Wiley High School in 1965. On August 26, 1966, she married Donald K. "Don" Sovern and he preceded her in death on September 6, 2007.

Sue worked as lead Dispatcher at the Jackson County Sheriff's Department for 25 years. She was a founder of the Jackson County Sheriff's Posse. Sue enjoyed working in her flowers and traveling with the Happy Traveler's Group. She was happiest being at home taking care of her kids and grandkids.

Sue is survived by her 2 children: Bradley Sovern & Elizabeth Ann Sevakis both of Medora; a sister, Judith Keene of Bloomington; grandchildren: Derek Bradley (Alex) Sovern of Brownstown, Dustin Tyler (Abby) Sovern of Texas, Jamie Marie (Kendall) Smith of Texas, John Tanner (Kristina Pack) Sevakis of Bedford, Ethan Michael Sevakis & Leyton Anthony Sevakis both of Medora; 3 great grandchildren: Jolene Smith, Kenan Smith, & Finn Sovern; sister-in-law, Tammie Freeman; special friend, Chuck Darkis; several nieces and nephews.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a brother, Richard Marlin Jackson; & in-laws, Jesse & Helen Sovern.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at Johnson Funeral Home, Vallonia. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery in Lawrence County, IN. Memorial contributions may be given to the Sovern Family or to the American Heart Association.
