Gearl Dean Cornett, age, 84 of Troutdale, VA, the Flatridge Community, passed away on Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, at the Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, VA.
Gearl Dean was born on February 22, 1938, in the Grant Community of Grayson County to Hilmore Jackson and Belvia Jane Spencer Cornett.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
He was a veteran of the United States Army.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 64 years, Georgia Ruth Cornett of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Eddie Perkins of Troutdale, VA; one son David Cornett of Troutdale; three grandchildren, Stacey and Scott Osborne of West Jefferson, NC, Ashley and Brandon Brewer of Troutdale, and Michael and India Cornett of Troutdale; five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Madison, Isaac, Eli, and Noah.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at 11:00 AM at the Baptist Union Church with Pastor, Rev. Roger Boyer, and Rev. Doug Halsey officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the church prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Central Cemetery. His military service will be recognized at the graveside service which will include Military Honors performed by the Grayson County V.F.W. Post #7726 and the United States Army. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Troutdale Rescue Squad or the Troutdale Fire Department 291 Ripshin Road Troutdale, VA 24378. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence, VA is serving the Cornett family.
