Evelyn Leggans, age 82 of Murphysboro, formerly of Jonesboro, died Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 10:10 pm in Manor Court.

She was born to Thomas and Etta (Cheney) Jefferson on February 14, 1933 in Marietta, Arkansas.

Evelyn married Earl Lee Leggans on April 30, 1948. Together they shared 67 years of marriage.

She was a homemaker. She attended the First Baptist Church in Ava. She was in a quartet, sang in the church choir and at various nursing homes. She was a great cook, loved to sew and quilt, loved to garden and loved her cats. She also participated in several marathons.

She is survived by her loving husband, Earl Leggans of Murphysboro; a daughter, Joy Leggans of Murphysboro; 4 sons, Stephen (Marsha) Leggans of Columbus, OH; David Ray (Lisa) Leggans of Mt. Vernon; Donald J (Beverly) Leggans of Cedarhill, MO; and Thomas Edward (Elizabeth) Leggans of Benton; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Martha Wright of Carbondale and Cleta (Ron) TerHark of Franklin; a very best friend, Patsy Clutts of Murphysboro; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Ruth Etta Leggans, 2 brothers and a sister.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 29, 2015 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home on Old Rte. 13 between Carbondale and Murphysboro.

Funeral Services for Evelyn Leggans will be Thursday, April 30, 2015 at 11:00 am at Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home on Old Rte. 13 between Carbondale and Murphysboro with Rev. William Stoklosa officiating.

Interment will follow at the Jonesboro Cemetery.
