Curtis Sluss - Coeburn, VA
Curtis Wayne Sluss, Sr., 82, Coeburn, VA passed away peacefully, Friday, February 10, 2023, at Norton Community Hospital.
Curtis was born in Coeburn, VA on September 1, 1940, and was the son of the late Sam and Doris (Meade) Sluss.
Curtis was a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Dungannon, VA. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Korea and Germany.
He enjoyed baseball and was a long-time fan of The Cleveland Indians.
Curtis liked taking his classic car to shows and parades.
In addition to his parents, his, brothers, Bryan and Erchel Sluss preceded him in death.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years,, Edith Skeen Sluss, his children, Wayne Sluss, and wife, Teresa, and David Sluss; grandchildren, Adrienne (Gage) McCoy, Jordan Sluss, and Stuart Samuel Sluss; sisters, Shelby (Randy) Kilgore, and Criss Stallard; sisters-in-law, June Sluss, and Glenda Sluss; his fur babies, Fluffles and Kat; extended family member, Nancy Jones Sluss, along with several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
The family will receive friends from 5-7p.m., Monday, February 13, 2023, at Estes Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m., in the chapel with Rev. Larry Beavers officiating. Tyler Skeen will provide the music.
Military graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, VA by members of the V.F.W. Honors Team assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honors Team.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The Men of the First Baptist Church of Dungannon will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at 10:45 a.m., Tuesday, at the Mausoleum at Temple Hill Memorial Park for the graveside service.
The family wishes to extend a special Thank You to the staff of Norton Community Hospital and to Caris Healthcare, Big Stone Gap.
