Geneva (Flowers) Johnson was born in Guy, Ark. on July 24, 1929 to Moses and Ada (Rice) Flowers and passed peacefully on Feb. 10, 2023.

She graduated from Guy-Perkins High School as valedictorian in 1947 and began at Harding college (now Harding University) in Searcy, with a scholarship. She ran out of money and began working in Little Rock, Ark.

In 1958, Mrs. Johnson raised three baby calves on a bottle, sold them, and used the money to return to college at Arkansas State Teachers College (now the University of Central Arkansas) in Conway. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education degree, majoring in Mathematics in 1961, and her Master of Science in Education degree in 1963. She was on the Dean's list and was elected to Alpha Chi Honorary Society. She continued graduate work with the National Science Foundation stipends at the University of Central Arkansas and at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. In 1968, she was awarded a Shell fellowship to attend Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.

Mrs. Johnson taught Mathematics at Quitman High School for 25 years and filled in there a few times in emergencies. This career was a joy for her. She loved her students.

On. Oct. 11, 1947, she married William Ross Johnson, Sr and they had one son, William Ross Johnson, Jr., who was born in 1949. After Ross Jr. completed his cruises on the USS John C. Calhoun and was preparing to become an instructor at the nuclear power school at Idaho Falls, Idaho, he was killed in a civilian motorcycle accident in 1976 while serving in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. and Mrs. Johnson had been married 63 years and 15 days when he died in 2010 in the V.A. Hospital in Little Rock, AR. Mrs. Johnson was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Harley (killed in World War II), Wilburn, Billy Earl Flowers; and her sisters, Glennie (Flowers) Hagman and Christine Gail (Flowers) Bingham; nephew Warren Hagman and sister-in-law Edwa Dee Copland (Flowers) Hensen.

Geneva was a lifetime member of Daughters of the American Revolution and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliaries, Ex POW Organization, Arkansas Education Association, and the National Education Association. She was a former member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and Arkansas Council of Teachers of Mathematics, serving as state secretary for two terms for the Arkansas Council. She was a charter member of the Beta Xi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Cadron Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Geneva was a member of Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church in Quitman, AR.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home at 650 Central Landing Blvd, Conway, Ark., 72032 from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services and interment will be held at Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church at 62 Mt. Pleasant Rd., Quitman, Ark., 72131 beginning at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16. Brother Don Williamson will officiate. Music will be provided by Patricia Williamson. Eulogies will also be provided by former students and friends.
