George F. Warner, 91, passed away on Feb. 8th, 2023. Born in Waterbury on April 23, 1931, the son of the late Clayton and Helen (Swan) Warner, he graduated from Crosby High School and the University of Connecticut. A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the 25th Infantry Div. (Tropic Lightning). George was employed by the CPA firm Ernst & Ernst in NYC, Syracuse, and Hartford. He then joined Coopers & Lybrand (now Price Waterhouse Coopers) retiring in 1996. He took a position as Controller of the CT Capitol Growth Council and was also employed by the firm of Barbara Irish, CPA, LLC.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Elliott Warner, his sister Ruth and her husband Ray Holland of Southington. He also leaves three children; David and his wife Civejta of Cornwall on Hudson, NY; Susan Butcher of Clinton, CT, and Karen Warner of Enfield; six grandchildren; Daniel, Robert, Christian, Gabrielle, Tatjana, and Elena and two great-grandchildren. His brother Clayton and sister in law Bess, and first wife Natalie (Walters), predeceased him. He also leaves four step-children, Ann, Peter, Stephen, and Paul, their spouses, and many step-grand and great-grandchildren.
In high school, he was the Master Councilor of the Doric Chapter Order of DeMolay in Waterbury and was awarded the DeMolay Order of Chevalier, the highest award of that organization. He was proud to have worked summers for the U.S. Forest Service in Idaho while in school. He was assistant camp boss, and as assistant crew foreman, fought in several forest fires in Clearwater, Nez Pierce, and Blackfoot National Forests and the Bob Marshall Wilderness Area in Montana.
A member of Somers Congregational Church for many years, George served on a variety of committees and as Moderator. He was elected to the Somers Finance Board and served there for over thirty years. He was also a trustee of the Somers Pension Committee and a member of the Somers Cemetery Committee. As a member of the Somers Republican Town Committee, he was treasurer and vice-chairman. He served as treasurer of the 7th Republican Senatorial District Committee and was a member of the CT Municipal Consortium for Fiscal Responsibility. He was also a member of American Legion Post 101 in Somers.

Relatives and friends may join the family on Monday, February 13, 2023, from 4-7 pm at Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main St, Somers, CT 06071.
