John Staley Brookshire, 76, of Jackson, Mississippi, passed away on January 18th, 2023 in Bedford, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Harold. He is survived by his wife, June, and his brother, Roy.

John was born on September 21st, 1946, as the youngest of three boys to Roy and Mattie Lou Brookshire in Jackson, Mississippi. John graduated from Central High School in Jackson. After high school, he attended Hines Junior College and then earned a Bachelor's Degree in physics and mathematics at Mississippi College.

During the Vietnam war, he volunteered and joined the United States Army, serving two tours in 1970 and in 1971. His explanation for agreeing to serve the second year in Vietnam was that he preferred it to being in the stateside army.

In 1974 John and June began dating and were married on March 15th, 1975 in Jackson at a beautiful Unity Church in a converted antebellum home. John was a loving husband and father. During the 47 years they were married, they enjoyed many adventures, not the least of which was raising their three sons: Jonathan, Matthew, and Daniel. They enjoyed a wonderful partnership together, traveling to many different locations, and eventually starting a business together.

Enjoying a long career as an aerospace engineer, John worked for Boeing, Bombardier, Bell Helicopter, Lockheed Martin, Sikorsky, Gulfstream and other companies. John inspired people and championed causes at every location. He started spiritual study groups, panned for gold, and redesigned aircraft with equal enthusiasm.

John never did retire; he was too much of a dreamer to do so. Driven by the idea that he could help combat malaria, John developed a new solution of nascent iodine and donated the supplement to groups in Africa and India. Today, Shield Bearer is a profitable company, led by his son Matthew. On December 4, 2012, John Brookshire was recognized as an inventor when he was granted a patent for "storable, consumable nascent iodine" by the U.S. Patent Office.

John always had a very rich spiritual life. He was an active participant in Edgar Cayce study groups, and has been a member of Unity Church for many years. Until his final days, John remained a keen thinker and recently completed the manuscript of his first book, a tale of Vikings coming to America titled "The Exile."

Widely known as an avid storyteller, he was currently transcribing the Brookshire family chronicles with his son Jonathan.

John is survived by his wife, June Johnson Brookshire; son Jonathan and wife Marijke; son Matthew and wife Delilah; and son Daniel and partner Elissa; grandchildren Gus, Will, Silas and Sigourney. In addition, we could not leave out his nieces Bridget, Cindy, and Merrie; nephews Roy and Ross, and numerous cousins. His family finds consolation knowing that John has lived life to the fullest. Beloved husband and father, John will be remembered as the eternal optimist, the first in line to lend a hand, ready to inspire, and as those who knew him would agree, a renowned joker and storyteller.
