"Prominent West Plains Merchant Ends Life by Poison"

W. M. Poage, 43, commits suicide by poison (carbolic acid) and is found dead in his bed by a family member at about 9 p.m., Mon., 25 Jan 1909. He left no note but had been in poor health for some time. Survivors included his wife (inferred: Nina Earle FARTHING Poage); five children, daughters Gladys, Marie, and Ruth; and sons Earl and Golden, ranging in ages from 12 to 19 years old. Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday, at 4 o'clock, Elder G. G. Horne of the Christian Church officiating.
Interment: Oak Lawn Cemetery, West Plains, Howell County, Missouri, USA.
