Raymond Dal Canton, Retired Miner Died Sunday, Funeral Wednesday

Raymond Dal Canton, 76, of 504 Locust street, in Schram City, a resident of the Hillsboro community since his boyhood, died at 4:40 5 p.m. Sunday at Hillsboro hospital where he had ben a patient eight days. He had been hospitalized previously during an extended illness.

The remains are at Bass funeral home where the rosary will be recited Tuesday at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Agnes Catholic church. The Rev. Leonard Rathgeb will conduct the requiem mass and burial will be in St. Agnes cemetery.

Prior to her retirement Mr. Dal Canton for many years was employed as a coal miner. He was born a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Born Nov. 3, 1895 a son of Vincent and Josephine (Rizzotto) Dal Canton. He was reared in Kortkamp and an early age began working in the mine.

He and Lena Bellaver a daughter of Matt and Mary (Corra) Bellaver were well known residents of the Kortkamp community were married Nov. 20, 1915 in a double ceremony at St. Agnes church performed by the Rev. Thomas Masterson. Mrs. Dal Canton's brother Tony Bellaver and his bride were married at the same time. The couple celebrated their Golden wedding anniversary in 1965.

Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Dal Canton became the parents of a son Eugene of Hillsboro, a long time employee of the Kroger Co., presently at the Litchfield store. A daughter, Irene, died July 29, 1931 at the age of eight.

With his wife and son he leaves a grandson, Dennis Dal Canton and employee at CIPS power generating station at Coffeen and a sister, Mrs. Amelia Billo of Schram City. One brother Angelo Dal Canton has died.

Mr. Dal Canton was a member of St. Agnes church and a charter member of the Hillsboro Moose lodge.
