Joseph Patrick Balkenbush, 87, of Choctaw, OK, passed away on February 5,
2023 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 11, 1935, to Paul and Keo Balkenbush in OKC, OK.

In 1953, Joe married his wife, Sally Kane, and they were then blessed with six children. Joe and Sally were married for 63 years until her death in 2017.

Joe retired from OG&E after 39+ years of service. In his 28 years of retirement, he enjoyed woodworking and building all sorts of things for family and friends. Joe and Sally were active in their church, St. Teresa's Catholic Church in Harrah, OK and Joe even spent time building a dome for the church as well as completing several other remodels at the church. He also spent time rebuilding a Conestoga wagon, which is now on display at Atkinson Heritage Center in Midwest City, OK. Joe's greatest loves were his wife and his family. Joe and Sally loved the lake, fishing and family time.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Keo Balkenbush; in-laws, Louis and Sallie Kane; wife, Sally; son, Jim; granddaughter, Kim; and grandson, James Paul.

Joe was a kind and loving husband, father, papa, and friend. He was generous with his time, love of God, and always willing to lend a hand in times of need. Joe loved life and blessed so many with his tenderness, love of life, humor, kindness and compassion.
