When Doris was eight years old, her parents followed their doctor's advice to move her to a warmer climate. They settled in Visalia after a 26-day cross-country trip in their 1923 Ford Overland, filled with all of their earthly belongings and their two little girls. After growing up and finishing school in Visalia, Doris met Edgar File, a tall, dark and handsome young man who was instantly hers after she winked at him at a dance. They were married on her 25th birthday and eventually settled in Fresno where their three children, Steve, Larry and Kathy, were born and raised.

After Ed died in 1989, Steve, Larry and Kathy began having lunch with their mom every Tuesday, a tradition they continued for 19 years. Tuesday lunches became the highlight of her weeks. In 2003, Kathy and her husband Paul made the decision that Kathy would retire from her job and become a full-time caregiver to her mom. Because of Kathy's and Paul's love, she was able to remain in her home up to the very end, fulfilling the desire of her heart to remain where Ed had been.

Doris is survived by her children, Kathy Shore, Steve and his wife Barbara, Larry and his wife Sharon; her grandchildren, Janelle File, Tricia Macy and her husband Jim, Shelly Alex and her husband Greg, Ryan Odell and his wife Lauren, Jason File, Jaimi Fong and her husband Cameron, Kerri Volek and her husband Billy, and Corey File and his wife Ann. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ed, who passed away just before their 50th wedding anniversary; her sister, Fran Hogue; and her son-in-law, Paul Shore.
