Floyd Jake Trester, 73, of rural Le Roy, Kansas, died Monday evening, Feb. 25, 2008, at his home.

He was born Sept. 10, 1934, on the family farm in Allen County, Kansas, to Charles Burton and Lottie Vanetta (Scott) Trester.

He was one of 12 children. He grew up in rural Allen and Anderson counties and attended rural schools.

As a young man he worked on the family farm and in the oil fields and later at Walton Foundry in Iola. He then was self-employed for many years in the sanitation business, owning and operating trash and septic services. He also worked on the construction of John Redmond Dam and Reservoir.

On Dec. 8, 1953, he was married to Ruby May Jones in Mildred, Kansas. They were the parents of seven children. They moved to Le Roy in the fall of 1957 and later moved to their farm north of Le Roy in 1971.

He enjoyed coon hunting, fishing and making wind chimes from salvaged materials.

He is survived by his wife of the home; a son, Douglas and wife, Patricia, Powell, WY; seven daughters, Debbie Hegwald and husband, Bruce, Le Roy, KS, Diana L. Trester and Dave Aucoin, Burlington, KS, Donna Godsey and husband, Nick, Winchester, KY, Dixie Kirkham and husband, Jack, Syracuse, MO, Delcie Chappuis and husband, Grant, Wichita, KS, and Dawn Trester and Randy Richie, McKinney, TX; a brother, William John and wife, Millie, Iola, KS; a sister-in-law, Marie Trester, Wagoner, OK; 19 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Ten brothers and sisters, Gladys Opal Cornett, Pansy (Ruth Mae Riley) Kennedy, Lloyd Ervin Meek, Hazel Craghton Knowlton, Violet Mae Hutton, Elihue Byrd "Shorty," Bert Andrew, Albert, Lillie Ester McCullough and Daisy Beatrice Jones, died earlier.

Funeral services will be at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington, Kansas. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery near Mildred, Kansas.

Memorial contributions to the Jake Trester Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home.
