Mary Jane Messer of Mission, Texas died peacefully in her sleep at the Bridges at Mission on August 24, 2007 at the age of 87.

She was born on December 26, 1919 in Bottoms, Texas, the fourth of six children born to Jim and Ada Honeycutt. She married Wilson Bryant Messer on November 28, 1942, who predeceased her in 1987.

She was also predeceased by her parents, her sisters, Katie Rutledge and Audrey Haas and her brothers, Thomas Honeycutt and J. D. Honeycutt.

She is survived by her daughter, Billie Jane Vanderveer and husband Robert of Weslaco, Texas, her son, Thomas W. Messer and wife Cindy of Coppell, Texas and sister, Laura Beth Campbell of Temple, Texas. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Melanie Riley and husband Rock of Weslaco, Texas; Joel Vanderveer and wife Monica of Weslaco, Texas; Will Messer and Preston Messer both of Coppell, Texas; one great grandson, Kaleb Messer, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 27, 2007 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple with Minister Darrell Knight officiating. Visitation will be held 4-6 p.m. Sunday August 26, 2007 at the Scanio-Harper Funeral Home.
