Martha Sue VonFeldt, 78, Topeka, died Friday, January 27, 2023 at the Midland Hospice House. She was born August 7, 1944 in Claflin, Kansas, to Joseph and Georgia Patzner, Sr. She attended grade school at Claflin, Kansas, and graduated from Claflin Rural High School in 1961.
She married Karl VonFeldt, Victoria, KS, on May 29, 1961 at The Basilica of St. Fidelis, formally known as St. Fidelis Church, commonly known as the Cathedral of the Plains, in Victoria, Kansas. Together, they raised three sons of whom she was fiercely proud. Karl preceded her in death on July 12, 2020.
Sue was a retiree of the Santa Fe Railroad. She began her career as an accounting clerk in 1970 and worked her way early in her career to becoming one of the first female managers in the accounting department. She retired in 1999. Afterwards, she served as both an office and committee secretary for the Kansas State Legislature for many years, developing deep friendships with many of her colleagues.
When she was a young mother, Sue volunteered as a Boy Scout den mother. Later, she served as an officer in both the National Association of Railway Business Women and the Santa Fe & BNSF Retirees Club. She also organized several all-women investment clubs.
She and Karl were longtime parishioners at St. Aloysius Church in Meriden. Sue loved a good puzzle, cheering on the KU Jayhawks, sharing the accomplishments and adventures of her three sons, and the joy she received from each of her six grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons. She is a grandmother and two great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Ann Dreiling and Dorothy Carver, and one brother, Joe Patzner, Jr.
A Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 AM, Friday, February 3, 2023 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Meriden. Inurnment for both Sue and Karl will be at the St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria, Kansas, at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 4, 2023.
