Obituary

COVINGTON, Ohio — Barbara Lou Welch Minton was born July 31, 1928, daughter of Frank and Bonnie (Clay) Hollinger Welch of Bradford, granddaughter of Francis "Frank" and Viola (Clay) Hollinger in Randolph County, Indiana.

She married Walter Leroy Minton, son of Noah and Ethel Shook Minton of Ansonia, on June 18, 1945, on the Great Lakes Naval Base before Walter was stationed on the aircraft carrier, the USS Princeton. They lived in Piqua for many years, but later moved to the country near Covington, Ohio. She is preceded in death by Walter and her son Jeffery Leroy Minton. She is survived by her daughters Jennifer Minton Romick of Covington and Leeca (Timothy) Minton Smith of Fishers, Indiana; grandson Robert Emerson Anspach (Jane Weinschenck Vlahos), Piqua; James Christopher Anspach of Covington; Travis Minton (Tiffany Minton) of Dayton; and Emily Scholes of Dayton. She had seven great grandchildren; Dallas Hunt, Bailey Anspach, Kyler Steele, Parker and Ava Grace Minton; Leah and Helen Vlahos and two great great grandsons Weston and Wyatt Hunt.

Barbara worked as Piqua City Schools' Head Cook at both Nicklin Avenue and Bennett Schools. She was a lifelong member of the Greene Street United Methodist Church, serving as a trustee for a number of years. She was also a member of the Tots to Teens Mothers Club for almost 45 years and she and the Club aided Ruth Hawn in establishing the Hahn-Hufford Center. She and Walter loved to travel in their trailer and have parties with their wide circle of friends at their home in Covington. She passed from this life on February 7th 2018, after a long life well lived and well loved.

A service to honor her life will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, February 11, at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. Will Leasure officiating. Her family will receive friends from 11 to 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Piqua Education Foundation, 719 East Ash Street, Piqua, OH 45356.
