Jeannette Everett
September 13, 1936 - December 27, 2022

On Tuesday, December 27, countless dogs wiggled and bounced as they greeted Jeannette Everett at the Rainbow Bridge. Many of them had waited a very long time for this reunion as Jeannette was 86 years old at the time of her passing. As they say, good things come to those who wait.

Jeannette was fond of sayings, proudly wearing tees or sweatshirts with bold statements on them. A favorite reflected the Shakespeare quote, "Though she be but little, she is fierce." Or, as Jeannette liked to say, "I'm fun size." Though she may have been small in stature, she made a huge impact on her community.

It all started when Jeannette rescued a boxer dog she named Lucky. Shortly thereafter, Jeannette began her prolific breeding and showing career. Her intense love of boxers led her to offering training classes to the public, and in 1966 she played an integral role in starting the McHenry County 4-H dog obedience program that continues today. She, with her husband Darrell and daughter Vanessa, went on to open Lucky-E boarding kennel, and established the non-profit Boxer Rebound over 40 years ago. Jeannette also sat on the McHenry County Animal Control board of directors for many years. Because of her efforts, innumerable dogs have been trained and boxers rescued, rehabilitated, and rehomed.

None of the above would have been possible without Jeannette's feisty spirit and ability to commandeer attention and respect - from both dogs and people - in any room she entered. In fact, "I'm the alpha and I'm good at it," and, "I am who I am and that's that," are phrases Jeannette used to describe herself. She was an expert trainer and unflappable in her approach. Jeannette always knew exactly how she wanted to do things and did them exactly that way without concern for others' opinions of her tactics.

The daughter of the late John and Marie LaForge, Jeannette was preceded in death by her husband Darrell, and the many canine companions she shared her heart and home with over eight decades.

She is survived by her sister Marilynn (Dick) Vogelman, her daughter Vanessa (Steve) Kotyza, son Brett (Renee), grandchildren Jacob (Alex) and Cassandra (Josh) Vansickle, and great grandsons Bentley and Colton Vansickle.

A celebration of life will be held this summer. In the meantime, if you are so inclined, please honor Jeannette's unwavering devotion to dogs by making a donation to Boxer Rebound, P.O. Box 214, Ringwood, IL 60072.

And with that, "exercise finished".
