ELKHART — Donald W. Kantz Sr., 93, of Elkhart, passed away Saturday morning, May 5, 2018, at Elkhart General Hospital.

He was a native of Elkhart and a 1943 graduate of Bristol High School.

Donald was born April 12, 1925, and was the son of the late William G. and Lillian B. (Wade) Kantz.

He married the former Betty J. Conover on June 21, 1945. Betty died Dec. 20, 2008, after 63 years of marriage.

Surviving are five children, Linda S. (Dan) Weeks, Connie (Glen Booth) Terrazas, Larry (Kate) Kantz, Donnie (Kathy) Kantz and Jim (Annie) Kantz.

Don has 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Shortly after graduating high school, Don enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served honorably from 1944 until his discharge in 1946.

He worked as a truck driver for Phillips Industries, retiring in 1990.

Donald loved watching sports and working in his yard.

He was a huge Chicago Cubs fan and was grateful he saw them win the World Series.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 4-6 p.m. Friday, May 11, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart.

The evening will conclude with folding and presentation of the flag and playing taps.

Memorials may be given to Center for Hospice Care.
