Born in Crisfield on March 19, 1946, he was a son of the late Melvin Mace Harris, Sr. and Myrtle V. Culbertson Harris. His wife, Donna Lee Nelson Harris, preceded him in death on December 5, 2019.
Melvin was a 1964 graduate of Crisfield High School and served in the US Air Force. He was a retired Maintenance Officer/Locksmith at Eastern Correctional Institution.
Melvin was a true "Mr. Fix It" and "Jack Of All Trades." He loved working with his hands and was a phenomenal duck carver. He also built model boats and cannons. You could always count on him for an honest opinion and he would always "tell it like it was". He didn't sugarcoat anything and because of that he was the one everyone went to for advice.
Surviving are his children, Janet Lynn Beckett and husband John, Angel Lynn Harris, Starr Lynn Mister and husband Bradley, and Melvin M. "Bubby" Harris, III and wife Rachel; Laurie Harris and Melvin "Bucky" Harris and their families; siblings, Donna Hickman and Tommy Harris and wife Dawn; grandchildren, Kenny Sneade, Jr., Nick Sneade, Matthew Beckett, Elijah Mister, Isaac Mister, Haley Harris, and Jacob Harris; a great-grandchild, Gracelynn Ann; and many special nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by siblings, Joy Fay Gilson, Carol Lynn Howard, and baby Donna Jean Harris; and a special aunt, Peggy Culbertson.
Memorial services with military honors will be held at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at 4 PM where a visitation will be from 3-4 PM. Urn interment will follow at Sunnyridge Memorial Park. Brother David Dunn and Pastors LeBron Palmer and Robert Blevins will officiate the service.
