Barbara Wooldridge Clark passed away on January 23, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband, John "Jack" Lewis Clark, her father, Earle Hunter Wooldridge, and her mother, Ruby Thomas Wooldridge. After growing up in Lynchburg, Virginia, Barbara moved to Richmond to attend Richmond Professional Institute (RPI), now known as Virginia Commonwealth University. While attending RPI she worked in the fashion department at Thalhimer's Department Store. She served on the Junior Board and Senior Board of Crippled Children's Hospital, now known as Children's Hospital of Richmond, and also served a two year term as President of the Junior Board. Under her leadership the Crippled Children's Hospital Ball was established in 1963 and it has continued as an annual fundraising event held at the Country Club of Virginia to this date. Over the years the Ball has raised thousands of dollars for the Hospital. Barbara was also a sustaining member of the Junior League of Richmond and she maintained membership in The Woman's Club, the Tuckahoe Woman's Club, the Three Chopt Garden Club and St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Her special interests included tennis, golf, gardening, decorating and travelling. Barbara and her husband Jack travelled the world with many wonderful trips. They visited Antarctica to study penguins and travelled to Borneo to explore the habitat of gorillas and chimpanzees. Barbara and Jack were among the first to visit China. A graveside service will be held in Hollywood Cemetery on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Richmond SPCA, Children's Hospital of Richmond, Monticello or St. Christopher's School.
