"Chesley Griggs, better known as "Uncle Tobe Griggs", died at the home of George Downum Thursday afternoon. His death had been expected several days. He was born in Tennesses in 1847; but his parents moved to Faulkner County, Arkansas and he there grew to manhood. When sixteen years of age he enlisted in the 3rd Ark. Regiment (Federal troops), but saw very little active service. He married Mrs. Amanda Mount and later moved to his county where he has since resided. Besides his widow he leaves two sons, Robert and Hampton, and a daughter, Mrs. Jane Downum. -- Mrs. Milton Downum left immediately after the burial of her father Friday for Bixby, Okla. where her husband is confined to his room with malarial fever. Mr. Louis Downum, of Spring Creek accompanied her."
