Nancy Louave Barkley, 85,of Somerset, was called to her heavenly home and is now absent from the body and present with the Lord. Nancy was 85 years of age when she finished her race on earth and went home to be with the Lord, January 25, 2023. Nancy was Born May 1, 1937, in New Kensington PA, daughter of Earnest and Margaret (Keim) Crise. Nancy was a 1955 graduate of Somerset Area High School then attended Hammond Beauty School in Johnstown PA graduated in April 1956. She worked as a well-known hair stylist in several different beauty salons, including Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home and out of her home for a total of 57 years. The ability to talk to anyone allowed Nancy to also be successful in just about anything she did, including retail sales at Montgomery Wards as a customer salesperson in Somerset. Preceded in death by her parents, first husband Henry Allen Baker, second husband Nevin M Barkley, granddaughter Kaitlin N Baker, brothers Richard W and Arden L, sisters-in-law Betty Crise and Janice Crise. Nancy was an excellent cook and hostess, who loved nothing more than to celebrate all the holidays. Christmas was her favorite time of year, and she would bake countless dozens of different cookies and decorate for days. For more than 30+ years she hosted an elaborate Christmas brunch for family and would then turn around and cook a formal Christmas Day dinner for additional family and friends. Somehow, she always made cooking look easy. Her abilities to can and freeze seasonal produce were amazing, but her meat dishes, pies and desserts were phenomenal. Nancy did enter many cooking contests and was blue-ribbons, first place in five of her entries. She also enjoyed gardening with her outdoor flower beds and growing incredible variegated Violets and Amarilis house plants as well. Nancy was a member of the Pike Run Church of the Brethren and Ladies Auxiliaries. She became known for her homemade baked beans, chicken stuffing, soups, and pies in the church and will always be remembered for sharing whatever she had with anyone in need. Making sure no one "went without" was incredibly important to her and 'food' was her love gift. Nancy also loved to mail greeting cards to people that were ill at church and throughout the Somerset community, including all her friends at Brierwood Village. Survived by her children Robert A Baker married to the former Kristi A Rosseland of New Jersey, Cheryl Ann Rigo Somerset, grandchildren: Jakob (Hannah), Brooke Baker, Kelsey Baker and Hayden Rigo (Fiancée Carolyn Smith). Including her sister Margaret (Jay) Shaulis and Jack (Eileen) Crise, along with several nieces and nephews. Her favorite scripture verse was Joshua 1:9, "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." Nancy will be remembered by friends and family at a memorial service at a later date and time. Interment will be private at Bakersville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Pike Run Church of the Brethren at 2582 Glades Pike, Somerset, PA. 15501. Arrangements by the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset.
