Dale Edward Meister, age 77, of Lake View, Iowa, passed away on Friday, February 22, 2008, at his home in Lake View.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 25th, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wall Lake. Burial will be at the Wall Lake Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Visitation is at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Lake View on Sunday evening, from 4:00-8:00 p.m., with a vigil service at 7:30.

Dale was born on the family farm, rural Lake View, on January 26, 1931, to Edward P. and Elizabeth (Heller) Meister. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wall Lake. He received his elementary and high school education from Lake View, graduating in 1948.

On October 23, 1951, Father Victor Kollasch united Dale in marriage to Ruth Peters at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll, Iowa. This union was blessed with two children: Alan and Lora. Dale was inducted into the United States Army on April 5, 1954. He served during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged April 4, 1956, earning the rank of Spec. 3.

Dale farmed his whole life, 45 of those years were on the farm 6 ½ miles east of Lake View, retiring in 2001 when they moved into Lake View. He raised cattle, hogs, and had a large dairy herd. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed their many visits. Going fishing, playing cards with friends, and traveling were some of his favorite hobbies. Dale and Ruth's traveling adventures included Hawaii, Alaska, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Lechtenstein, and many of the states.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth; two children: Alan Meister and wife Mary of Jackson, Nebraska and Lora Carroll and fiancé Rod Carter of Ruthven, Iowa; seven grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and six step great-grandchildren. Other survivors include his brother James Meister and wife Mary Ann of Lake View; sister Delores and husband Merlyn "Shorty" Thompson of Lake View; brother-in-law Elmer Peters and wife Hazel of Glidden, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Elizabeth Meister; brothers: Louis, Darrell, and Raymond and wife Lillian Meister; parents-in-law Derk and Maggie Peters; and granddaughter Cassie Carroll.
