Although there is must controversy as to the correct spelling of this surname, the most accepted spelling within the many members of other family members is PRUITT. Either the name was misspelled on the tombstone or this particular family chose the Pruiett spelling on this tombstone. His obituary spelled his name as Pruitt. The obituary is stated verbatim below:

"Mr. John Wesley Pruitt, age 85, of Lebanon, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at his home October 12, 1974. He had celebrated his birthday just 2 days prior to his death, and was born in 1889 to John Pruitt and Elizabeth Duncan Pruitt. He married Georgia L. Duncan who preceeded him in death in 1966. Mr. Pruitt was a retired saw miller.

Funeral services were held at Toonigh Baptist Church, 2 p.m. on Oct. 14th with the Rev. Paul Woody, and Donald Lummus officiating. The grandsons served as Pallbearers, and the interment was in the Lebanon Cemetery with Sosebee Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Pruitt is survived by two sons, Mr. David Pruitt of Lebanon, Mr. Albert Pruitt of Acworth, two daughters Lannie Duncan and Mrs. Herbert Gable, both of Lebanon, 16 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren."
