Roger Jacob Ackerman died January 22, 2023 after a seven year battle with cancer. Roger was born April 4, 1941 to Eldon and Muriel (Welshons) Ackerman in New Washington. His twin brother, Gary David, died at birth.

At a young age, Roger spent his summers at his Grandma Welshons farm working with his Uncle Kenneth. This is where he developed his love of farming. He graduated from New Washington High School in 1959 where he played basketball and baseball. He was also involved in the band, choir, and school play. On August 30, 1964 he married his high school sweetheart, Anita Green. They were married for 58 years. They traveled to many states and went on many cruises with friends. They loved going to their Grandchildren's music and sporting events.

Roger was an active member of the New Washington United Methodist Church all of his life. He played on the dartball team, sang in the choir, and was on the church council for many years.

Roger was also a member of the Gideons International. This was a very important part of his life. He is survived by three sons and their wives, all of New Washington: Andrew and Monica, Ben and Laura, and Aaron and Nancy. He has eight grandchildren: Ethan (Ayesha), Lauren, Owen, Kaylen, Wade, Addison, Kendra, and Lydia. He was looking forward to meeting his first great grandson, Zane Jacob, in March.

He has a sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Ronald Kalb, and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gerald and Roberta Kalb. He has many special nieces and nephews.

Roger worked at PPG for 42 years and after retirement, he enjoyed farming with his sons and meeting with his former coworkers for breakfast. He also served in the Bucyrus National Guard for six years (1964-1970).

The family wishes to thank the Mansfield Campus of Cleveland Clinic for their care and kindness during this time. We are fortunate to have had these additional seven years with him.

Visitation will be Friday, January 27, 2023 from 1-3 and 6-8 at the Secor Funeral Home in New Washington, Ohio. The funeral service will be January 28, 2023 at 11 :00 a.m. at the New Washington United Methodist Church in New Washington with Rev. Gerald Kalb and Rev. Thom Kalb officiating. Burial will follow at the Union Cemetery in Sulphur Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International.
