Services for Alpha G. Hammel, 78, of 22 Oak Lane, Davenport, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Weerts/Hill & Fredericks Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, Davenport.

Mrs. Hammel died Sunday at St. Luke's Hospital.
She had been employed at the Rock Island Arsenal, weapons command, retiring in 1972. Alpha Ledbetter married T. Cecil Hammel in 1925 in East St. Louis, Ill. He died in 1988.

She was a past matron of Order of Eastern Star 178, Davenport; past royal matron, Order of Amaranth, Davenport Court No. 1: member of White Shrine of Jerusalem, Mohnssan Caldron No. 2; Pythian Sisters; the Social Order of Beauceant of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and past counselor of United Commerical Traveler's Auxiliary.

She is survived by a daughter, Betty Jo Skeens, Davenport, with whom she resided; a son, Thomas, Birmingham, Mich.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
