Mr. Alvin D. Sweat, 91, died Tuesday morning (July 1, 2008) at Satilla Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Waycross. He owned and operated Sweat Furniture Company on Tebeau Street, and he was affiliated with the Baptist faith.
He is the son of the late Joseph Atwell Sweat and Mary Jane Jordan Sweat. He is the husband of the late Dorothy Mae Cason Sweat and was also preceded in death by a son, Ronald King.
Survivors include four sisters, Jeanette Brown of Waycross, Mary Agnes Rose of Tifton, Wilma Summerall of Waycross, and Wannie Taylor of Alma; caregiver and niece, Karen McDaniel of Waycross; nephew, Gary Brown (wife Lynn) of Waycross; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday (July 2, 2008) at Hephzibah Cemetery in Dixie Union. The family will receive friends 10:30 until 11 a.m. at the cemetery.
