She worked as a Sergeant for the Polk County Corrections for nineteen years and worked as a secretary for Lighthouse Christian Academy in Mayo, FL for seven years. Mrs. Barrett is survived by her husband of forty-four years: James Leonard Barrett, Sr., McAlpin, FL; one daughter: Heather Nichole Szortyka (Kevin), Tallahassee, FL; two sons: James Leonard "Jimmy" Barrett, Jr. (Samantha), McAlpin, FL, Colin Alexander Barrett, Washington; one sister: Joy Denise Landen (Bart), McAlpin, FL; nine grandchildren: Ashley, Zoie, Marcie, Beir, Aubrey, Phoenix, Wesley, Faith, Meaghan; three great-grandchildren: Mia, Brady, and Saylor. Services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, December 28th at Live Oak Church of God with Pastor Wes Tanksley officiating and a visitation held prior to the service beginning at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery..
