She was the daughter of Harry Rockwell and Grace Jacobs Babbitt. Bingham County News, Oct 19, 1923
Two Children Stricken with Infantile Paralysis
Helen Virginia Babbitt, the seven year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Barton of Shelley, was stricken with infantile paralysis last Friday and succumbed to this dread disease early Sunday morning. The paralysis was first observed in her lower limbs, and as it advanced toward her head and reached her heart and lungs, death was instantaneous. Dr. F. W. Mitchell of Blackfoot was called Saturday morning, and while everything known to medical science was done for the little girl, the physician gave the parents no hope of recovery.
The other child who was stricken was the three year old child of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Adams of Shelley. the Adams child and little Helen Babbitt were playmates and both developed this disease about the same time. The left leg of the Adams child is paralyzed, although it is believed that he will recover. He is the grandson of Joseph Adams, editor of the Shelley Pioneer.
Mr. and Mrs. Barton brought the body of little Helen to Blackfoot, where the funeral services were held.
