Mary Elizabeth Hartsock, eldest daughter in a family of eleven children, was born to Uriah and Hannah Hartsock, Monmouth, Illinois, on May 11, 1865, and departed this life October 27, 1955 at the home of her son, Lee near Dallas, South Dakota at the age of 90 years, 5 months, 11 days.

She came with her parents by covered wagon to Mount Ayr, Iowa. She was united in marriage to John F. Graesser August 23, 1883, and in 1886 they moved to Lincoln, Nebraska. In 1897 they homesteaded in Keya Paha County, Nebraska, where she resided until the death of her husband July 18, 1938. For the past 15 years she has made her home with her son near Dallas.

To this union eight children were born, six of whom survive: Mrs. Sadie Whitley, Jamison, Nebraska; Lee, Tom, and Mrs. Agnes Beck of Dallas, South Dakota; Mrs. Eva Dover, Battle Ground, Washington; and Vern of Sturgis, South Dakota; one daughter, Lizzie, died in infancy; one son, Lue, passed away in 1933. She leaves to mourn her departure three sons and three daughters, 30 grandchildren, 94 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren. Also one brother, Tom Hartsock, Lynch, Nebraska; four sisters, Mrs. Della Peckhardt, grand island, Nebraska; Mrs. E. Jane Randall, Omaha; Mrs. Clara Cornell, Ogden, Utah; and Mrs. Lucy Whitley, Naper, Nebraska.
