JAMES KENNEDY PASSES AWAY
Christian Life of Garfied Citizen Ends at Age of Eighty-Nine
James Kennedy, a well known and respected citizen of the Garfield neighborhood, died last Thursday at the age of eighty-nine.
Mr. Kennedy was known for his Christian ways of living and for the part he took in church affairs. He professed religion in 1833 and united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Pleasant Grove. On October 10, 1857, he moved his membership from Pleasant Grove to Freedom. He was a ruling elder in the church at Freedom until his death and he and his work there will be greatly missed. He lived a pious, Christian life and had great love for church and his family and neighbors.
Of a large family of children reared by Mr. Kennedy, seven survive to mourn his loss.
Mr. Kennedy was a Mason and one of the best of the order. As a citizen, a Mason and a Christian he led an excellent life.
The furneral was held Saturday, the interment being at Freedom Cememtery. Rev. J.S.J. Brear, pastor of the Presbyterian Church at Freedom, preached the funeral serman and the remains were buried, at the request of the deceased, by the Masonic order.
