E. E. McPhail, 85, Dies Wednesday At Residence

E. E. McPhail, well-known resident of Jacksonville, died Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. at his home here, 1320 West State street. He was 85 years of age.

A native of Mt. Sterling, Ill., he was born on October 21, 1861, the son of John and Mary Pettigrew McPhail. He was united in marriage with Mary Parker in Mt. Sterling on March 29, 1883. The couple resided in that community for about 15 years, then moved to this city where they have since made their home.

Mr. McPhail was active in church and lodge circles here. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge No. 4 and Central Christian church. At the time of his death he was the oldest living honorary elder of the church and for many years was teacher of the Old People's Class at the Christian Home.

Surviving are: his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Merle Crouse of this city and Mrs. W. H. Rowlands of Chanute, Kas.; three grandchildren, George Ames, Mary Lou Hankins and Becky Crouse. Three sons and two daughters preceded him in death.

He also leaves a half brother, William Clark of Mt. Sterling and a half sister, Nellie Clark of Florida.

The body is at the Gillham Funeral Home. Funeral plans have not been completed and will be announced later.

Funeral services for E. E. McPhail will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Central Christian church. The Rev. Roy S. Hulan will officiate. Burial will be in Diamond Grove cemetery where the Illini Lodge No. 4, I.O.O.F., will conduct its ritual.
