Ethel P. Scranton Ballatore D'Amico (known to all as Pat), 81, of East Berlin, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 26th, 2022 at the Bel-Air Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Newington with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife to the late Pasquale J. D'Amico (Pat). Ethel was born in New Haven on April 16th, 1940 and was the daughter of the late Wilbur Lewis Scranton III and Katrina van Benschoten Scranton. Pat spent her childhood years in Woodbridge. She always had many pets, and was such a lover of all animals and living things. She also loved to bird watch, and play the piano. Her faith in God was the driving force of her life. She attended Gateway School through high school, where she was active in the Glee Club, basketball and fencing. She went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Biology from Elmira College in NY, and attended Columbia University, where she received a Master's degree in Physical Therapy. She worked as a PT at Griffin Hospital in Derby, CT, where she met and married her first husband, Philip Vincent Ballatore in 1968, and they had two daughters together, whom she cherished. They were married for 19 years, and resided in East Haven until Phil passed away in 1988. She later met Pasquale J. D'Amico (Pat), who had two sons and a daughter of his own. They were married in 1993 and resided in Shelton, CT and Pat became a special mother to 3 more. During their time together, she attended Gateway College in New Haven, and received a Certificate in Recreational Therapy. She worked as a Recreational Therapist first at Bentley Gardens, and then for 20 years at Notre Dame Convalescent Home, in Norwalk, until she retired. She loved working with the residents and the people dearly. Pat and Pat enjoyed many, many happy years together going to Block Island, Atlantic City with Pat's Uncle Freddie and his wife Jenny, going to Florida to visit Pat's sister Sylvia and Johnny, going to the shooting range for target practice, and spending quality time with their children and grandchildren. Pat and Pat were the love of each other's lives and were together for almost 30 years until he passed away in 2018. She was a lover of family, God, people, animals, birds, gardening and music. She was an active member and Deacon at the Church of the Redeemer in New Haven where in her earlier years she sang in the Senior choir and taught Sunday school. Beloved mother of Melissa (Tim Lydon) Landino, Gabrielle (Tim Tralli) Ballatore, Dave (Sue) D'Amico, Patsy (Dawn) D'Amico and Robin (the late Bobby Warner) D'Amico. Loving sister of Van (Erica) Scranton and the late Wilbur Lewis (Dori) Scranton IV. Loving Grandmother of Isabella, Francesca, Heather, Rikki, Kevin, Billijo, Ben, Kane, Jill, Joel, Maria, Gina, Amanda, Freddie, Alyssa, John and Amy. Loving great-grandmother of Tyler, Aiden, KJ, Kali, Logan, Sophia and RJ. She also leaves behind many precious nieces and nephews, and dear childhood and college friends who she had remained close with until the day she passed. She will be forever loved and missed by all those whose lives she touched with her gentle, soft spoken and caring ways.
