A memorial service was held for Margie B. Chase, Saturday, December 15, 2012, in the chapel of North Monroe Baptist Church.

Margie was born June 8, 1928 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was a long-time resident of Tensas Parish, before moving to Monroe in 1962. She passed from this life on Saturday, December 8, 2012.

Margie suffered a lengthy illness and was a resident of Avalon Place Nursing Home in her last years. She died peacefully, under the compassionate care of Hospice Compassus with her children by her side.

Margie was known for her devotion to her family, for helping others in need, for the wonders and beauty she found in nature, and for her unflagging sense of humor.

Margie taught Special Education in Ouachita Parish for 22 years. She loved her students and found joy in their successes. She was very close to some of her fellow teachers and aides.

Margie received her BA in Special Education in 1966 and her MA in 1968. Later in her career she earned a Specialist's Degree in gerontology. At the same time she reared four children alone, always striving to impart to them the importance of compassion, courage, integrity, and forgiveness. She and her children received the love and support of her beloved mother, brothers, Dale and Billy, and sister-in-law, Ethelyn through difficult times.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William E. Branch, her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William E. Branch, Jr., her beloved son, Donald Atchley Chase, and two nephews, William E. Branch, III and Franklin P. Gipson.

Margie is survived by two sons, J. Ben Chase, III, and William Dale Chase, her daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and John Ory, and two dear daughters-in-law, Janet Chase Blakeney and Susan Jussel Taylor. She is survived by six beloved grandchildren, Rebecca Chase Jacob, Christopher D. Chase, J. Douglas Chase, Carey Chase Tew, Andrew Scott Chase, Wesley Mack Chase, and a growing number of adored great-grandchildren. Margie is also survived by her brother, Henry Dale Branch, her sister, Shirley Branch Darby and beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
