Anna Mae Bess Barziza Queen, 84, went peacefully to be with our Heavenly Father on January 7, 2023, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Bess, as she was lovingly known, was born on December 2, 1938, in Houston, Texas where she remained a longtime resident until her untimely departure.

At the age of 18, Bess began a lengthy career with Southwestern Bell later turned AT&T which she retired from with 41 years of service. Bess was well known for her kind, and giving disposition.
She was dedicated to anything she put her mind to and exhibited a hard work ethic which inspired her three children. She was met in heaven by her momma, Mary Emilia Kleb Wolfe, her father, James Herndon Barziza Sr., her brother, James Herndon Barziza Jr., and her sister, Geraldine Marie Brock.

When Bess loved, she loved deeply and that was evident in the way she adored her three children, Tommy, Brian, and Nicole as well as her spouse, Dan. Bess is survived by her husband, Daniel J. Queen III, her son, Thomas Stewart Chalmers, his wife Norma Chalmers, and their five children: Salena De La Rosa, Tacheena Rubio, Chana Chalmers, Gabriel Chalmers, and Trinity Chalmers; her son, Channing Brian Chalmers, his wife Yadira Chalmers, and their son Connor Chalmers; and her daughter, Nicole Chalmers Hoffman, her husband Shaun Hoffman, and their three children: Hannah Chalmers, Bryce Hoffman and Grayson Shelton; her brother Charles Richard Barziza and his wife Kay Barziza, her sister-in-law Dixie Barziza, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great grandchildren, extended family, and many friends.

Bess enjoyed dancing, playing dominoes, slot machines, traveling, drinking hot tea, eating ice cream, and taking care of her grandchildren who affectionately called her Grammy. Bess was well taken care of in the last few years of her life by the staff of Visiting Angels, an in-home caregiver, and the staff of Avalon Memory Care-Tuckerton location.

The visitation will be held on January 13, 2023, 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 1101 Antoine Drive, Houston, TX 77055. The funeral will be held on January 14, 2023 at 10:00am at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 1101 Antoine Drive, Houston, TX 77055 with a graveside service being held directly after at the Woodlawn Cemetery.
