Verlan 'Hunky' Porter, a lifetime resident of Cutler, passed away at the age of 77 on July 18, 2011, in Bangor. Hunky was born October 18, 1934, in Cutler to Frank and Marjorie (Peabody) Cutler. He later married Maxine Dennison. In 1971 he became friends with John Ferris. This friendship would later blossom into a business partnership when they formed Ferris-Porter construction. Hunky was also a lifetime member of the Warren Lodge of Mason?s in East Machias. In his free time, he could not wait to go camping in May at Timberland Acres where he could visit his special friends. Hunky especially enjoyed all of the special time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Maxine, at home in Cutler; sons, Curtis (Deborah) of Buckston, Michael (Michelle) of Cutler, Kristan (Brenda) of Cutler, and Kerry (Jenni) of Lake Mills, WI; daughter Machelle ?Shelly? Perreault (Michael) of Charlotte, N.C; brothers, Arthur of Cutler and Clifford of Augusta; sisters, Irvina Gould of Waldoboro and Linda Elridge of Cutler; grandchildren, Jacob, Caleb, Gregory, Jessica, Brittan, Derrick, Whitney, Ashley, Brandon, Cal and Libby; and great grandson Will. Hunky was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Elizabeth Wood. Visiting hours are scheduled from 6:00pm ? 8:00pm, Friday, July 22, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home in Machias. The graveside committal will begin at 1:00pm, Saturday, July 23, at New Cutler Cemetery with a memorial service to follow at the school. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Cutler United Methodist Church, Post Office Box 233; or the Cutler Scholarship Fund, Post Office Box 222; Cutler, ME 04626, respectively
