He was married twice:
1. Nancy Bowen on 3 February 1811 in Tattnall County, GA.
2. Sarah Collins on 15 Feb 1821 in Tattnall County, GA.

He moved to Lowndes County in the late 1820s. He owned a sizeable plantation south of Valdosta near Loch Laurel, which was originally called Boyd's Pool. He enslaved eighteen persons at the time of the 1850 census.
