They moved to Otter Creek, Eau Claire, Wisconsin and their first child was born in that county in 1866. Two more children were born in Wisconsin before the family moved to Sedgwick County, Kansas in about 1870. The two youngest daughters were born in Kansas. Their five children were Scott M. (1866-1942); Ida M. (1868-1945); George Crouch (1870-1941); Lillie Belle (1871-1950); and Emma B (1874).
Sometime prior to 1900, Robert and Mary Jane moved to southeast Kansas and lived in Weir, Cherokee County in 1900 and Opolis, Crawford County, in 1905. Mary Jane Elder died October 3, 1908, in Weir, Kansas. She was survived by her husband Robert and children.
