William Richard Carter, 54, 608 N.970 W.,Provo died Thursday at 11:15p.m. in the Hospital at Utah Valley of a short illness. He was born Feb 13, 1911, in Provo, a son of Charles Edwin and Nettie Knowles Carter. He married Georgia Beardall. They were later divorced. He married Rosalia Davis Moore on Nov. 24 1934 in Evanston, Wyoming.
He received his education in the Provo City schools and graduated from Provo High School. He was first employed at the Provo Brick and Tile Co. and he worked for the CCC. During the war he was employed at the ship yards in Los Angeles.
He returned to Provo and worked for the past 21 years for the Geneva Steel Co. For the past six years he was a foreman in the coke ovens.
He was a member of the LDS Church serving as a teacher and did ward teaching.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose No. 843 and served as governor of the local lodge from 1963 to 1965.
Surviving are two sons and three daughters. Richard Carter, Las Vegas, Nev.; William Albert Carter, Provo; Mrs. Cordell (Bernice) Pyne, Las Vegas, Nev.; Mrs. Joseph (Rosalia) Mecham, Fontana, Calif.; Miss Flora Jean Carter, Provo; Five stepdaughters, Mrs. Thomas (JoAnn)Cluff, Mrs Harlene Carter, Mrs. Joseph (ShirlDean) Martinez, all of Provo; Mrs, Ralph (June) Jones, Fontana, Calif.; Mrs Dale (Joy)Hoppe, Los Angeles, Calif.; 23 grandchildren; two brothers and three sisters, J. Delmar Carter, Provo; Alden S. Carter, Richmond, Calif.; Mrs. Frank (Lettie)Kearns, Mrs. Albert (Mable) Clark and Mrs. Don (Deloris)Sabin, all of Provo.
Funeral services will be held Monday at noon in the Berg Drawing Room Chapel of Provo with Bishop Calvin J. Chappell of the Rivergrove Second Ward officiating. Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary of Provo Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday prior to services. Interment will be in the Provo City Cemetery.
