Mabel graduated from the Rosston High School in 1937 & that same year she & Charles Bowers were married in the Harper County Courthouse in Buffalo, OK - Merle Wolf & her husband, C.H. "Pud" Wolf, Charles' sister & brother-in-law, stood up with them as witnesses. Early on, Charles & Mabel lived on the Hickman homestead & later moved to their permanent home southwest of Gate, OK where they lived until they moved to Laverne, OK following the death of Charles' parents, Paul & Iva Bowers.
In 1967 Mabel began work in the cafeteria for the Laverne Public Schools where she worked for 27 years; at the age of 77 Mabel retired. Mabel was an outstanding wife & mother; her cooking & seamstress skills were legendary; she deeply loved & cared for her children & their families.
In her obituary, her children wrote "Mable left as her legacy her Faith in God & her trust in Him, her non-judgemental attitude, her overwhelming love for her family, her giving spirit, and her positive outlook on life. The children each felt loved & are grateful for the wonderful memories & examples from Mabel & Charles about how to live their lives & how to treat each other."
