December 24, 1949 ~ January 3, 2023

A celebration of life for Shirley "Sue" Nash, 73, will be held on Saturday January 7th, 2023, at Wheeler Mortuary in Portales, New Mexico at 1 o'clock p.m. Burial will follow at Long's Cemetery where her parents and sister have also been laid to rest. Shirley "Sue" Nash was born on December 24th, 1949 to Charles and Tommie Bennett. Sue was raised and went to school in Causey, New Mexico. Her vocations were vast, ranging from hairdressing, being a full time mom, a school librarian, and a realtor. She then happily retired from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice after serving her community for many years.

Sue has two children, a daughter Lacee Ratcliff of Amarillo, Texas and a son Gavin Nash of Portales, New Mexico. Sue also has a beloved grandson, Britten Ratliff. Sue was kind, compassionate and so very patient. She let her love for Jesus shine through her by loving on other people. Sue lived out the scripture, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven," Matthew 5:16. If you needed encouragement, it could be found by simply seeing the smile on her face. Sue had a knack for loving the hard to love; "Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you," Luke 6:27-28.

Sue loved to listen to music, attend her grandson's basketball games, ride along with her son on work trips, and care for those in need. She especially enjoyed spoiling her grandson and great-nieces and great-nephews. She had many beloved friends whom she enjoyed spending time with.

Sue is survived by daughter Lacee Ratcliff, son Gavin Nash, grandson Britten Ratliff, brother Charles and his wife Beverly Bennett, sister Patricia Bullock and her husband Duwain, brother-in-law Cotton Patton, sister Phyllis Ivey and her husband Allen as well as many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Sue was preceded in death by her father Charles Bennett, mother Tommie Bennett, her nephew Jarrid Ivey, niece Chantel Ivey and her sister Gail Patton.
