Evelyn N. Collins, 89, of Peoria, formerly of East Peoria and Hopedale, died at 10:35 a.m. Thursday (Feb. 14, 2008) at The Buehler Home, Peoria.

She was born Sept. 25, 1918, in Hopedale, to Lizzie Egli and Asa Nafziger. She married L. Chester Collins on Oct. 9, 1943, in Corvallis, Ore. He died Jan. 28, 1997.

She is survived by three daughters, Lyneve (Steve) Wunning of Peoria, Trudy Faries of Peoria and Cathie (Mark) Holm of Lyons, Colo.; one son, LC "Chip" III (Becky) Collins of East Peoria; one brother, Orval (Jessie) Nafziger of Eureka; one sister, Ina Garber of Eureka; a sister-in-law, Marian Nafziger of Minier; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Michael Scot Collins; two brothers, Melvin and Willace Nafziger; and a sister, Lucille Bachman.

She graduated from nurses training at Methodist Medical Center in 1939 and was a registered nurse. She was employed at Methodist Hospital and also at Caterpiller as an RN during World War II. She was also employed by different doctors with private practices and was a member of the Visiting Nurses Association.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Peoria.

Her service will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday with visitation one hour prior at the Cumerford-Hurd Funeral Home, 428 W. McClure Ave. Peoria. The Rev. Stephen Barch will officiate. Cremation rites have been accorded.

Private burial will take place at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
