Jahu Grover enlisted 24 April 1861 in Company H, 2nd Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry. He was 22 years old, with blue eyes, auburn hair, and a dark complexion. He was 5' 11" tall. He was wounded by a musket ball to the right arm at the battle of Brawner Farm on 28 August 1862. He was absent wounded from his unit through the rest of 1862. According to the company muster rolls, he was detailed on brigade cattle guard in August 1863 and transferred in October 1863 to the Veteran Reserve Corps. He was discharged 11 Jun 1864 due to the expiration of his term of service. He died of influenza on 2 March 1932 at Burt, Iowa.

Jahu H. Grover was united in marriage to Mary E. (Stahl) Grover on October 4, 1864 at Lodi, Wisconsin. This union was blessed with six children.
