Roberta (Roxy) Carolyn Carey, of Kingston, Illinois, died September 3, 2022, at Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital.
Roxy was born on December 11, 1936, in Sycamore, Illinois, and graduated from Genoa High School in 1954 before attending Northern Illinois University. She then married Vernon Carey on September 29, 1956.
Roxy was a homemaker and farmer and worked for many years as a patient assistant at an eye surgery center. She loved her horses, dogs, gardening and all things about nature. And she was an avid traveler and believer in great adventures. Her interests included fostering generations of equine enthusiasts through the United States Pony Club and 4-H. She also loved exploring the world through a good novel, knitting, volunteering at the local library, and preserving local history at the Kishwaukee Historical Society as she was part of the fifth-generation of her family in Genoa.
Roxy's greatest love was family. She is survived by her husband, Vernon Carey (and her beloved dog Buddy), sister Beverly (Pinky) and Blaine Gorham, and children, Dan (Jennifer) Carey, Jody (Steve) Olsen, Rob (Jackie) Carey and Jill (Andy) Carey-Hargrave. And the true loves of her life were her grandchildren, Amanda Olsen (dog Kona), Orion Carey (Matthew Partch), Rachel Martin (Nick Gillis), Lorcan Carey, Aidan Hargrave, Hope Hargrave, Jordan Hargrave, great-grandchild Evelyn Martin, and step-grandchildren Brenna Ramsden, Kelly (Bryan) Bender, Katie Ramsden and Danni Bender.
She is preceded in death by her parents Barbara Elizabeth and Robert Courtney Nelson of Genoa, Illinois, and Hollandale, Wisconsin.
Family and friends are invited to Roxy's celebration of life on September 17th from 1-4 p.m. at her and Vernon's home. A private graveside service will be held for immediate family at a different time.
