VERNON — Austin Elvis Aulds, Jr., age 90, of Vernon, Texas, passed away Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, in a Wichita Falls hospital.

Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, in the Chillicothe Cemetery in Chillicothe, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home in Vernon.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, at Sullivan Funeral Home.

Austin was born Oct. 17, 1917, in Chillicothe to Austin Aulds, Sr. and Arah Coker Aulds. He graduated in 1937 from Chillicothe High School.

He served in the United States Army from 1940 until 1945 in World War II in the South Pacific. He was then called to serve again during the Korean Conflict.

He married Tharon Frost on Oct. 21, 1942, in Frederick, Okla. They moved to Big Spring, Texas, where he owned his own business and then moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1965. He and his wife moved to Vernon in 1975. Austin served as the Veteran Service officer for Wilbarger and Hardeman Counties until retiring. He served as president of Kiwanis and the adjutant of the American Legion Post 67 for over thirty years.

Austin has been a Christian for many years. While living in Las Vegas, Nevada, he helped to establish a non-denominational church.

Survivors include his wife, Tharon of Vernon; one son, Joe Aulds of Allen, Texas; one daughter, Jacqueline Pilcher and husband, Richard of Las Vegas, Nevada; one brother, Harold Aulds of Austin, Texas; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, Richard E. Aulds in 2004; one great-grandson, Joseph Aulds in 2003; two sisters, Geraldine Allred and Fern O'Pry; twin brothers, Kenneth Aulds in 1975 and Keith Aulds in 1991; and one nephew, Robbie Brock.
