Leslie A. Mosher, 96, passed away in Sandpoint, Idaho on Tuesday, January 15, 2008.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, January 22nd. Interment in Pinecrest Memorial Park.
Les Mosher was born on Nov. 22, 1911 in Near Hurley, MO, the son of Charles and Mary Jane Mosher. He attended school at Republic, MO, then at the age of 9 moved to Sandpoint, ID with his family on Sept. 2, 1920. They lived in a log house, built by his father near Dover, and he attended the Riverside School near Dover.
His first jobs were selling papers on the streets of Sandpoint and herding cows for the town farmers. Seven days a week he would herd cows from downtown Sandpoint to the country, and stay with them all day, and bring them back at night. He was paid 10 cents per cow per day.
Les‘s first real job was with the AC White Lumber Company in the window and doorframe factory, at the age of 16. He also delivered the Spokane Chronicle. For 3 years he worked for the Potlach Lumber Co. in Lewiston and then spent 18 months working in the CCC's. In 1938 and 1939 he worked on the barge that pumped sand from the bottom of the lake to raise the city beach. He went to work for the Pack River Lumber, Co. in Dover in 1946 and retired in 1974. On Aug. 24 1946 he and Redena Hiatt were married in Sandpoint and resided here until her death in 2005. For the last 25 months he has been living in Bonners Ferry, ID, at Selkirk View and at Ace Elder Care. Les enjoyed ice fishing on the lake and picking huckleberries.
Surviving relatives are his nephew Bill (and Linda) Hiatt, grandchildren Tamara Hiatt, Wendy (and Steve) Hawks, Billy (and Stephanie) Hiatt and 9 great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Redena, his loving wife of 59 years, his parents Charles and Mary Jane Mosher preceded him in death, brothers Karl and Bill Mosher, and sister Merle Wendt
