Cherry Lynn Carleton Sanders, 75, of Sallisaw, Oklahoma passed away on December 28, 2022, in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Cherry was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Clay and Jewell Carleton and Betty (Terrill) and Charles Stewart on October 17, 1947. While raising her boys she graduated from Northeastern State University where she received her degree in early childhood education. She would later work and retire from the Cherokee Nation WIC program after 20-plus years of service as an advocate. Cherry was always a hard-working woman, as well as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was cherished by all that were blessed to know her. On January 1, 1993, Cherry married Robert Sanders. This January will be 30 years of marriage. During retirement, Cherry enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She loved to spoil them every chance she got. Their favorite times with her were her pancake breakfasts, always getting a surprise from Walmart, and their special trips to the movies. She shared her love of reading and her very special recipes with her loved ones. It turns out after all these years the secret ingredient in Cherry's Lemon Cheesecake, was her love.

Cherry is preceded in death by her parents Clay and Jewell Carleton and Betty and Charles Stewart, and two children, Chantel Pegg and James Chadwick Renfro.

Cherry is survived by her spouse, Robert Sanders of Sallisaw, children, Michael and Glenda Pegg of Sallisaw, Jonathan and Natasha Pegg of Stillwater, Gary Sanders, Jimmy and Sheila Sanders of Sallisaw, Caroline Sanders of Georgia, and Lisa Sanders of Sallisaw.
