James Andrew (Andy) William Ivins Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and true friend to many. He lovingly and peacefully left this life surrounded by his family on November 13th, 2013 at the age of 64. He will be greatly missed by those he leaves behind, and warmly welcomed by those he joins in Heaven.
Andy was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 19th, 1949 to James Elbert Ivins and Margaret Milne Ivins. Andy lived most of his life in Houston, Texas. He attended Lamar High School, Tilton Academy and the University of Texas where he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. Following a career in financial services with Merrill Lynch, Andy received his J.D. degree from St. Mary's University School of Law and was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1995. He practiced law in San Antonio and the Texas Hill Country.
Andy was a lifelong sailor. He also loved fishing, hunting, ranching and reading, but most of all he loved to be with his family. Andy is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Carla, their daughter Darby, their son Drew and wife Lyssette, and grandson Agustin (Auggie). He is also survived by his sister, Sara Maley and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son Charles Dax Ivins, his sister Molly Ivins, and by his parents.
