Born Nov. 20, 1934, in Cairo, Alexander County, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Aaron Dillon and Gracie Pauline Harr Smith.
On Aug. 9, 1952, at Trinity Assembly of God Church in Olive Branch, Alexander County, Illinois, she married Floyd Clifford "Sonny" Coleson, who preceded her in death on Jan. 7, 1976. She later married second husband, Vernon Morrison who preceded her in death; and her third husband, the Rev. Bill Kitchen, also preceded her in death..
She retired from Florsheim Shoe Factory in Cape Girardeau, MO after 33 years of service. Betty was a wonderful cook and enjoyed dancing. She loved to go to church and enjoyed listening to gospel music - Christmas music was her favorite. Family was very important to Betty and she loved spending time with her family members.
Survivors include: two sons, Michael Ray Coleson of Mill Creek, IL and Wayne Dale Coleson of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Brenda Harvell (and Stanley Kee) of Wickliffe, KY; and Gale Ann and Johnny Ryan of Metropolis, IL; and nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were a daughter, Marilyn Kay Kaufman on May 17, 2003; son-in-law, William Gene "Billy" Kaufman Jr. on Jan. 5, 1985; son-in-law Ronnie Harvell on May 9, 1996; and daughter-in-law, Patricia Coleson; Dec. 28, 2019; and three sisters and six brothers.
Funeral services were conducted Dec. 29, 2022, at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. The Rev. Dave McNeely officiated.
Burial followed in Lindsey Cemetery at McClure, Alexander County, Illinois USA.
