Paul Eugene Marquardt, 74, of Parsons, passed away at 5:50 a.m., Monday, December 26, 2022, at the Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, Missouri.

He was born on March 21, 1948, at Parsons to William "Bill" E. and Oletha C. (Adams) Marquardt. He grew up at Parsons and attended Parsons schools graduating from Parsons High School in 1966. He worked at the Swift Co. for a few years and attended Pittsburg State University. He then entered into the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War from April 8, 1969 until he was honorably discharged on July 7, 1972.

Paul returned to Parsons where he worked at the Heritage Home and Elm Haven Nursing Homes for many years as the Environmental Supervisor. He retired in July of 2022.

Paul loved tending to the Koi Pond, landscaping, and gardening with Dwayne. He also enjoyed the warm weather and being outdoors during the Summertime as well as going for walks with his family and friends. His greatest joy was his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and supporting them in their activities. Vacationing in Navarre Beach, Florida during the Summer with all of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were some of the proudest and happiest moments of his life. He loved the ocean and everything about the beach.

He and Pamala Sawyer were united in marriage. They later divorced.

Paul is survived by his longtime companion, Dwayne Newkirk, of the home; his daughter, Kristin Rossman, and her husband, Travis of Parsons; his son, Jon Marquardt of Parsons; his grandchildren, Ariel Steeby, and her husband, Robert of Parsons, Alexander "Alex" McClenning, and his wife, Ashley of Parsons; Austin Rossman-Link of Pittsburg, Chelsea Rourk, and her husband, Jake of Girard; and Tiffany Rhine, and her husband, Zach of Joplin; 13 great-grandchildren; his brother Wayne Marquardt of Parsons; his sister, Dolores Stiles of Thayer; and many nieces and nephews.
