Service for Elmer will be at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, December 30, 2022, at Immanuel Lutheran Church (County Line Church), Peru. Chaplain Kent Terry will officiate. Burial will be in Granville Cemetery, Granville, with military honors.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Dysart-Cofoid Funeral Chapel, Granville.
Elmer was born on October 2, 1932, at his family home in Granville, to John Henry and Susanna (Giese) Waldschmidt. He married Mary Newborn, on June 20, 1953, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Peru.
He graduated from Swaney High School. He served in the United States Army, from 1953 to 1955, and was stationed in Alaska. Elmer was a self-employed farmer and also worked at Bassick, in Spring Valley, and did maintenance at Valley Electro Magnetics.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and also served on the church board. Elmer was a member of the McNabb American Legion. He loved to dance and he did for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Waldschmidt, of Granville; three sons, Randell Waldschmidt, of Jacksonville, FL, Robert "Waldo" Waldschmidt, of Granville, and Brett Waldschmidt, of Granville; one daughter, Brenda Bruhl, of Port Charlotte, FL; one sister Emma Roelofs, of Pueblo, CO; four grandchildren, Robert Waldschmidt, Brandy Howes, Barry Waldschmidt, and Veronica Waldschmidt; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Roy Waldschmidt, and two grandchildren, David Bruhl and Richard Waldschmidt.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to donor's choice.
Pallbearers will be Randell Waldschmidt, Robert "Waldo" Waldschmidt, Bobby Waldschmidt, Brett Waldschmidt, Veronica Waldschmidt, and Stan Waldschmidt.
